Isn't sowing seed cheaper than laying sod?

Even though it appears cheaper initially, the benefits of sod compared to seed easily show it's value. Seeding is a very high maintence project, requiring years to establish, as well as the expense and effort needed for watering, fertilizing, and  pesticides. On the other hand, sod provides an instant lush lawn, requiring only a small amount of time to become established.
